All of us have some level of people skills. We got to where we are in life some way. The problem is that in the work place we all do not have the same skills and are not all at the same level of ability.

So, we have problems:

  • People can't communicate with each other so we waste time, argue, and whine and moan and groan to others.

  • We hesitate to confront people when we should because we fear having to deal with conflict.  

  • The team doesn't have a clear direction so scope creeps, frustration mounts, and schedule and costs suffer.

  • We don't get good requirements because we have to interact with people to get them and to keep them current.

  • Most of us were trained in a technical discipline. We can give an informative presentation but in the project team environment our success depends on giving great persuasive presentations. We never learned how.
